Programme Description

The Intensive English Course at INNOVATIVE not only provides English Language training to students who are preparing for undergraduate and postgraduate studies but also to individuals who wish to interact effectively and confidently in their social and work circles. The courses offer thorough preparation in all the language skills necessary for further academic studies in English as well as for general improvement in their English competency levels.

Students who graduate from INNOVATIVE’s Intensive English Course will be able to sit for any one of the International English tests including the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE), and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to suit their future education plan.
There are three (3) levels of proficiency and each level is determined by a Diagnostic English Test administered upon registration at the college.

The levels available are:

Basic
Prepared for students with very limited command of English, the course will equip them with the critical thinking skills and basic language concepts in order to interact in the language and demonstrate some understanding of the general norms of the language conventions.

Intermediate
This course embraces the integrated teaching of the four basic skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with more emphasis given towards reading and writing, and structured presentations to enhance fluency and accuracy.

Advanced
At this level, there is an intensive focus on academic reading and writing, grammar and critical thinking skills. Our innovative and creative curriculum will provide students with the tools and means to enhance their English proficiency level as well as thinking skills so that they can stride abreast with others in the industrial, business and technological sectors.

Goals and Objective
1. Students will be equipped with critical thinking and language skills to interact with others and in so doing, demonstrating an understanding the general norms of the language conventions.
2. Students will be able to communicate their ideas and thoughts effectively as well as reason out and clarify their opinions using more varied vocabulary and sentence structures.

General Entry Requirements
The minimum age of 18 years and applicants should possess one of the following:
1. SPM pass with 1 credit in any subject or its equivalent
2. 1 credit GCE “O” level pass in any subject or its equivalent
3. Mature applicants, over the age of 25, who do not possess one of the above, may be admitted at the discretion of the Principal or Registrar.
